ACRYLIC AND COLLAGE WORK – from the SOUL 2025 series by Marcello Milanese – Archive 01 – single work – Title: PABLO The paint splatter represents the inner soul, and the comic-book expression is the external mask of the human being, with its reaction to the environment. The playing cards, or the paintings in the background of some works, symbolize the interpretation of the external world: in particular, all the elements were hit by bullets before being applied to the canvas, symbolizing real life. The use of vintage wallpaper creates a falsely comfortable space for the artistic representation. Milanese’s paintings are internal mirrors or exorcisms of fears, leaving the interpretation to the viewer. In Pablo, the artist chose to represent a work before its creator, to underscore the difference between enjoying and perceiving art itself: art and artist are not identical, but often antithetical. Even if we see the artist in his explosive soul, it does not correspond to his art, a dramatic drawing punctured by bullets. The question we might ask is whether the work represented is more human or the figure of its creator, all represented in another physical work.
