This is one of the most spectacular items we have ever had in our collection. It is a bangle / upper arm cuff made from Iraqi Silver. The bangle is shaped into a coiled snake, with a wavy tail. Externally it is then decorated in with Niello enamel to show the snake’s head, followed by scenes of Baghdad as seen from the river Euphrates. Internally the bangle is labelled ‘Baghdad 1927’ making the dating of this item very easy! Based on the construction technique, age, and decoration of the bangle we believe this to be a genuine piece of Marsh Arab jewellery – likely made to be sold as a tourist piece. The bangle is a very large size – measuring 7.5cm in diameter – and weighing 36.7 grams.
